BUILDING BRIDGES

We are connected. We are a network. Ten years ago we would sailed at speeds well below the bandwidths of today. Tracks, frequency bands, tunings, wireless access, 3G, 4G, shortcuts, hyperlinks. Today we are connected in movement. But there is still a long way to go. We dream of bridging distances as never before imagined. Proximity is possible whenever we build bridges, access, consensus. Dialogues build possible futures. Our footsteps lead us to the future.

We are fully aware that decisions concerning the Internet, its governance models, its new legal civil rights frameworks and its technological advances cannot be solved at the speed of a mouse click. The emerging digital culture with its attitude innovation and (pro)motion of new dialogue opportunities requires a new framework. New themes. New rules. New ways. New bridges. It takes time to discover the unknown. Just like building new bridges, dialogues leading to the consolidation of ideas are time consuming.

This year, the Brazilian Internet Steering Committee – CGI.br will host the Third Brazilian Internet Forum and the Brazilian Pre-IGF 2013 between the 3rd and the 5th of September in the northern region city of Belém in the state of Pará.

It is always important to stress our guidelines as the "Ten Principles of Governance and Use of the Internet in Brazil". We also follow closely the development of the IGF – Internet Governance Forum's agenda and syllabus and we are always pondering the breakthroughs and setbacks of this ten year journey of the World Summit of the Information Society (WSIS).

What are the relevant issues to be addressed?
